When we inhale the plant oils in Sunshine, tiny molecules are able to be dissolved into the lining of our nose. These molecules stimulate receptors, which then use receptor neurons to carry signals directly to the limbic system and hypothalamus.
This part of the brain contains the emotional and psychological centre of the brain that is connected to stress levels and emotions. All of our feelings originate in the limbic lobe of the brain, and they tie memories to certain scents. Certain scents of essential oils may ‘retrain’ your brain to associate smells with pleasant memories, instead of unpleasant ones through the autonomic nervous system. The emotional response is determined from the specific qualities of the essential oil inhaled.
When we feel stress, it increases our cortisol levels. Inhaling certain plant oils (included in Sunshine) have been shown to have the ability to signal to the brain to reduce stress hormones (like cortisol and adrenaline — which are linked to anxiety and insomnia) in the body to allow it to naturally support the hormones associated with pleasant feelings.
Scents can also decrease your sympathetic nervous system, which then lowers heart rate, breathing rate and blood pressure, allowing for a much deeper, relaxing feeling.
Due to their direct link with the limbic brain, scents can then stimulate other areas of the brain to create more ‘feel-good’ neurotransmitters that are found to be low in those suffering from depression (like serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, GABA and endorphins), while also reducing excitatory neurotransmitters linked with anxiety and depression.
When we inhale essential oils their active ingredients can also be absorbed directly into our bloodstream due to their small molecules diffusing into our lungs. In Sunshine, these molecules can further aid in supporting the regulation of stress related hormones.
When the body becomes inflamed (typically from our diet, infections, insomnia, dehydration or toxins) it releases hormones, called cytokines, into the blood. They are able to cross the blood-brain-barrier to activate an inflammatory response from the brain. This lowers nerve conduction, which can then enhance stress, depression or anxiety. Essential oils can cross the blood-brain-barrier, and the plant oils contained within Sunshine are anti-inflammatory to reduce inflammation and help repair and heal the brain from damage from inflammation.
When Sunshine is inhaled, the micro droplets of the essential oils are filtered through our lungs, where they enter our blood and the active ingredients then further their potential for pharmacological activity.TOPICAL BENEFITS
These plant oils contain small enough molecules that can be used topically and absorbed through the skin. Similar to the effect of these molecules being diffused through our lungs, when they are diffused through our skin, the active ingredients may find their way into our bloodstream and may support further the sedation of the nervous system.
Sunshine also contains plant oils filled with antioxidants that increase circulation and warmth when used topically, which helps bring an uplifting feeling to the body.EXTRA BENEFITS OF HEAT
Heat stimulates further circulation of blood and lymph, and helps the plant oils to absorb deeper within the body. Be sure to use heat in the form of a warm washcloth resting on top of the oils topically. Avoid heat from UV or sunlight (as some oils may react with sunlight to cause redness on the skin).ENERGETIC BENEFITS – THERAPEUTIC ACUPRESSURE POINTS
Using the roll-on on particular acupressure points along the body amplifies its therapeutic function. The plant oils contained in the roll-on are potent enough to stimulate acupuncture points without the needles, while also transferring their energetic information into the body through the specific acupuncture point that has a similar therapeutic function and into the meridians (energy pathways) of the body, creating a mutual resonance and synergy between the point and the plant oils to further enhance healing within the body.

For aromatic use: Hold the roll-on under to the nose and breathe in the fragrance for up to five inhales. Wait at least five minutes before repeating. It may take up to 20 minutes to feel the full effect.
For topical use (therapeutic acupressure points): Apply the roll-on on the temples or on the highest point of the head, under the collarbone, the back of the neck or in the muscle web between the first and second toe. Dilution not required, however, perform a patch test on skin for 24 hours before using topically.
